This course aims to provide students with understanding of the ethical issues of facing the manager. It will first look at the definition of ‘ethics’ and at its general significance in the business context, with attention to the corporation’s responsibilities to all its ‘stakeholders’ and to society as a whole. It will then look at the topic from a variety of viewpoints-historical, cultural, financial and legal-looking in each case at the ethical implications of managerial decisions.

Accounting for Decision Making

Recent abuses of accounting practices have increased awareness of the importance of honest financial reporting. This course aims to provide students with the ability to examine accounting rules and their application from the user's standpoint. Having taken this course, students should be able to understand, interpret and use financial information in various decision-making contexts, and to evaluate the relevance and application of financial information in the corporate decision-making process.

Business Economics

This course is offered primarily for those who have not majored in economics before. The aim of this course is to learn the basic economic principles as they apply to the business environment. By making use of business examples, students can learn how economics can be used to understand particular business problems or aspects of the business environment.

Statistics

In the world of business, the managers are constantly faced with decision problems which require some analysis of quantifiable data. From a myriad of numbers, they will have to monitor the performance of their businesses, detect environmental changes, and discern relevant factors for their decision making. They will also have to make accurate demand forecasts and risk analysis, all based on sound reasoning. True, managers do not have to be statistical experts, but they should develop abilities to learn from numbers what is really happening in their world.
In this course, you will learn the methods of data description, namely, summarizing and inferring characteristics about populations and testing hypotheses about those characteristics. In addition, the methods of analyzing relationships between variables such as correlation analysis, cross-tabulations and regression analysis will be dealt with. Lectures and exercises will be conducted using the Excel spread-sheet software.
